Hawke's Ridge 2010 Rose
Hawkes Ridge Wine Estate vineyard is established on an ancient river terrace in Mangatahi, Hawke's Bay, with dry stony free draining soil. It is close to the central mountain chain that protects the Bay from most of the prevailing western weather. It also has hills to North, South and to some extent the East as well. This has the effect of sheltering the vineyard from the influence of the sea. Typically the summers are hot and dry, with cooler night time temperatures compared to other wine growing areas of Hawke's Bay. This extends the ripening period of the grapes allowing them to develop more concentrated flavours.
Region: Hawke's Bay
Varietal Mix: Viognier & Tempranillo
This Rose is a rich light garnet colour with a delicious bouquet of strawberries and ripe red fruits with just a hint of caramel and light citrus notes. On the palate the wine is rich and full and round with well balanced sweetness that complements the strawberry and red fruit flavours. The wine has a lovely weight in the mouth and balanced acidity which leaves a long, clean, satisfying citrus finish.
This 2010 Rose is produced from handpicked Viognier and Tempranillo grapes that were then carefully blended prior to fermentation. The Viognier and Tempranillo are cropped at very low levels to ensure wines of character and depth. The wines will be attractive to drink young but will also develop more complex flavours with cellaring for up to 5 years.
Food Match: A great compliment to cheese, seafood and white meats. Serve lightly chilled.
