Rua Whenua 2007 Merlot / Cabernet Franc
The Hawke's Bay grape growing region is situated on the east coast of New Zealand and is bounded in the west by the Kaweka mountain range and in the east by the Pacific Ocean. Rua Whenua vineyards are located at coastal Te Awanga and they are a modest Hawkes Bay Boutique producer whose attention to quality is well renowned on the local market. Hawke's Bay, is loved for its sunny climate, fabulous beaches, sheltered coastal plains and long-established vineyards.

The exceptional 2007 vintage shines through in this built-to-last Bordeaux blend which is only just hitting its stride. The 2007 vintage was harvested at Te Awanga in Hawkes Bay and matured for nearly two years in French and American oak barriques (60% new). Fragrant and full coloured it's a blend of Merlot (60%) and Cabernet Franc (40%), sweet fruited and savoury, with excellent depth of blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours, still fresh and youthful.
A distinctive, complex wine that will benefit from careful cellaring.
Crushing / Pressing: Hand pick, whole bunch pressed crushed de-stemmed into tank.
Fermentation: Inoculated for fermentation with selected bordeaux yeast. Fermentation peaked at 28°. Following fermentation the wine was left on skins then was pressed off.
Barrel Handling: French and American Oak aged over 21 months – (60% New Oak).
Finning: The wine was palate fined with Egg white.
Filtration: The wine was filtered off egg white and bottled.
