The Hawke's Bay grape growing region is situated on the east coast of New Zealand and is bounded in the west by the Ruahine mountain range and in the east by the Pacific Ocean. Hawke's Bay, is loved for its sunny climate, fabulous beaches, sheltered coastal plains and long-established vineyards. The Hawke's Bay area has a rich winegrowing heritage being the oldest region in New Zealand with more than 150 years - and today, total plantings of Bordeaux red vines exceed Chardonnay, the most planted white grape. More than 70% of New Zealand's Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec are grown in the Hawke's Bay.
